Difference between Theft and Extortion

Theft and Extortion both are different from each other. The difference between the two are given below

1. Whoever intending to take dishonestly any moveable property out of the possession of any person without that person’s consent, moves that property in order to such taking is said to commit Theft under section 378 ,IPC.1. Whoever intentionally puts any person in fear of any injury to that person , or any person he is interested and induces such person to deliver an property or anything signed or sealed which may be converted into a valuable security commits Extortion under section 383 , IPC
2. In theft, property is obtained without the consent of the owner2. In extortion, the property is obtained by putting any person in fear of injury to that person or any other person. Thus, property is obtained by consent but under fear.
3. Theft can only be of movable property3. one can extort movable and immovable property both
4. No Force is used4. Putting of a person in fear must be there
